According to records, including those of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, George Davis died on 23rd December, 1914, while serving with the 3rd Royal Fusiliers and is buried in a cemetery in France. However, the 3rd Royal Fusiliers, who were in India at the start of the war, did not arrive back in England until December 1914 and went to France in January, 1915 as part of 28th Division. This suggests that either the date of his death was incorrectly recorded or he was not in fact serving with the 3rd Royal Fusiliers but possibly one of the other battalions of the regiment.
